Nagasaki, August 9

Today is the 68th anniversary of the bombing of Nagasaki.  What a horrible event that happened during World War II.

I was able take one trip to Nagasaki while I was living in Japan, in September of 2011.  I took the train all the way from Nagoya to Nagasaki, a nice way to relax and watch the scenery as the train passes by.  It takes longer on the train than it does to fly, but I wasn't in a hurry.  This was to be a relaxing/fun trip!

The memorial in Nagasaki is different than the one in Hiroshima, but both are impressive.  Here are some pictures from the memorial.

Paper Cranes!

This bell was found intact in the rubble after the explosion

There are also other things to see in Nagasaki, I really liked this bridge!  It is called Megane Bashi, which means Eyeglasses Bridge, because of the reflection.

The view from Glover Garden is Beautiful!  Here is some information in English about the garden.

Nagasaki has a wonderful history, and it is a great city to visit!  There are a few web sites that have good information in English about visiting Nagasaki, here and here.
