Hiroshima, August 6

Hiroshima is a nice town that is located on the southern end of the main island of Japan.  I have visited Hiroshima twice.  My first trip was with my mom when she came to visit me while I was living in Japan.  My second trip was for my 29th birthday.

In April 2007, my mom and I visited the Peace Park and the Memorial.  We also went to the nearby island of Miyajima, where the iconic red Torii Gate is located.  The tide was out, so we were able to walk right up to it!

For my 29th birthday I decided that I wanted to take an extended weekend trip to Hiroshima.  In Japan my birthday is a National Holiday, so I don't have to go to work or take the day!  My dad had jokingly told me that if I was going to Hiroshima, not to eat the food for fear of radiation, however I ate the food (fast food) and was sick food poisoning for most of the second of the three days that I was in Hiroshima.

So here are some lovely pictures of Hiroshima and Miyajima!

  1. I almost forgot, today is the 68th anniversary of the dropping of the bomb on Hiroshima.
